Around Town: Victoria gets a taste of Chicago

Broadway came to Victoria last week as the touring company of Chicago the Musical brought 1920s-style razzle dazzle to the Royal Theatre.

Broadway came to Victoria last week as the touring company of Chicago the Musical brought 1920s-style razzle dazzle to the Royal Theatre.

It was the realization of a dream for Henry Kolenko, artistic producer of Broadway in Victoria, who had long worked to bring a Broadway show to the Island.

Ken Mariash of Bayview Place, the presenting sponsor, hosted a party where Victorians had a chance to mingle with the cast and crew of the hit show. The more than 300 guests sipped Prohibition-era cocktails and nibbled canapes as the Stomp Club provided the music.

Mariash and the Langford Economic Development Committee donated $17,000 to local charities including: the Langford Legion, the Goldstream Food Bank, C-FAX Santas Anonymous, the Children鈥檚 Health Foundation, Another Brick in Nepal and the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
