To both raise funds and attract new members, a collection of both small and large Nanaimo Art Gallery banners will be for sale at the gallery, located at 900 Fifth St.
As part of the membership drive the gallery is devoting its entire lower gallery to the display of the banners.
These banners have graced the city's streets in previous years. Approximately 60 of them will be up for sale, states a gallery press release.
"For $35 you can get a regular membership and a beautiful banner, $25 if you are a senior," the release says.
A membership entitles the purchaser to 10% off gallery purchases, voting rights at the gallery's annual general meeting and e-mail invitations to all gallery exhibitions as well as a subscription to the facility's newsletter.
These colourful banners make wonderful gifts and conversation pieces.
The larger ones make interesting privacy screens that can make a colourful display in the home, balcony or even the yard.
The sale is offered from July 28 to August 26 at the gallery.
The Nanaimo Art Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
The gallery recommends anyone interested in purchasing a banner to come in early, when the selection will be best.
All banners purchased during this drive can be taken home immediately.
