Check out the Homes of Note

VIS fundraiser takes place on May 28

From magnificent custom designed homes to breakfast inns, and from the unique residence of famed blues musician David Gogo to the innovative award winning best single family detached home under 2,000 square feet, the Vancouver Island Symphony's fifth annual Homes of Note has it all.

On May 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ticket holders for this special fundraising event can take a self-guided tour of eight gorgeous homes and gardens located in South Nanaimo, Yellowpoint and Ladysmith.

Influences for these impressive waterfront and woodland homes include French Provincial, Frank Lloyd Wright's Hanna House, and both rustic and elegant wood and log designs. Interiors and furnishings complement the architecture and reflect the lives and tastes of the owners. Gardens vary from the idyllic to the serene, from natural to professional landscaping to gardens in progress. All gardens and homes alike have in common - beauty, comfort, uniqueness and harmony.

A special treat for the tour is the private residence and studio of musician David Gogo that was constructed six years ago of cedar, fir and Western red alder. Nearby, his father's home will be open for visitors to view an amazing collection of West Coast Native art, and much more.

The bonus home on the tour, added because it is along the route, was a winner of a prestigious Grand Georgie Award.

This chalet-style home, under 2,000 square feet, makes innovative use of timber and stone found on the site and features an outdoor kitchen and fireplace, ornamental pools and man-made swimming hole.

This wonderful springtime event provides an excellent opportunity to support Nanaimo's VI Symphony while enjoying the beauty and serenity of a harmonious symphony of homes.

Tickets are $21 in advance only and include a guide map and instructions. They're now available at Turley's Florists, Country Club Centre, The Quilted Duck Gift Cottage, Phaedrus & Cleo Fine Foods in Ladysmith, and the Ladysmith Chamber of Commerce.
