The Saanich Squid? How about Saanich Summit?
Those are among the choices as the Saanich Junior B hockey team released its list of finalists for a new name.
The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League team recently announced it had dropped its name of 53 years, Braves, out of respect for First Nations.
The potential new names are Squid, Summit, Riptide, Predators or Defenders and the club wants fans to decide. The public can choose among the shortlist of names. The team said, based on feedback, a new name and logo will be developed and announced in the coming weeks.
