The children from Mid-Island School of Dance take to the stage at Malaspina College Theatre on Saturday in a program of ballet, modern and jazz dance.

From the four-year-old budding talents to senior graduating dancers, everyone is excited to show off the results of their year's hard work.

They will be joined by guest artists from the MacKenzie School of Dance in Port Alberni.

Mid-Island School of Dance is dedicated to bringing out the best in every child.

Teachers work to give each student the strong technical base required to pursue dance to a higher level, while continuing to emphasize the joy of movement and performance. Co-directed by Bonnie McKerricher and Patricia MacKenzie, both qualified Cecchetti teachers, the school offers Cecchetti ballet exam preparation, open ballet classes, pre-school, modern, jazz and pilates. Also teaching are Collette Schilberg, Ivana Ho and Holly Bright.

Dancers from the school have been busy this season participating in the Upper Island Music Festival, with excellent results, and undertaking ballet exams in both the fall and spring sessions. Leah Jansen successfully completed her Cecchetti Intermediate Ballet exam in the fall session with an outstanding mark of Highly Commended.

Saturday's recital showcases a mixture of styles, including modern pieces by Sarah Joyce, asst. artistic director of Dancestreams and Crimson Coast's Holly Bright, classical and contemporary ballet, jazz and more.

The recital starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the studio, 2330 McCullough Rd. or at the door.
