Desire for sa国际传媒 outweighed U.S. job

I am a fifth-generation descendant of John and Jane Weir, who settled on the Nation River, about two miles west of Spencerville, Ont., in 1840, and whose family in time became renowned as farmers and skilled stonemasons.

I am a fifth-generation descendant of John and Jane Weir, who settled on the Nation River, about two miles west of Spencerville, Ont., in 1840, and whose family in time became renowned as farmers and skilled stonemasons. 1967 was an important coming of age for me and my family, as well as for sa国际传媒.

As an engineering graduate from Queen鈥檚 University in Kingston, Ont., my career has included participating in the design, development, application and manufacture of leading-edge technologies in telecommunications and nuclear-electric generation.

My best job, in terms of job satisfaction and remuneration, was as a project manager for the subsidiary in Ohio of a well-known and esteemed international corporation. My wife and I and our four young children lived in a large home on a quiet street, close to our children鈥檚 school. We owned a large camping trailer in a charming resort in nearby Pennsylvania.

In 1967 my wife and I took our four children to visit some friends in Dorval, Quebec, and to take in Expo 67 in Montreal. It was just a fun trip for our young children but, for my wife and I, it emphasized the differences between the ways of life in sa国际传媒 and the ways of life in the United States.

When we returned to our home and job in Ohio, I looked for a job in sa国际传媒. One dark evening in October, we approached the Canadian border with our children asleep in our van.

When the Canadian immigration officer examined our passports, he said, 鈥淲elcome back.鈥

I burst into happy tears. We were back home. 鈥 Robert Radford
