Malaspina Choir ready for concert

Nanaimo's Malaspina Choir, now in its 36th year, has grown so much it's becoming the city's equivalent of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Once a choral group with 60 to 75 members, it currently has close to 100 under the direction of Wade Noble.

Nanaimo's Malaspina Choir, now in its 36th year, has grown so much it's becoming the city's equivalent of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Once a choral group with 60 to 75 members, it currently has close to 100 under the direction of Wade Noble. Now the choir is gearing up for its spring concert, Passionately Purcell!, which will be performed in Victoria on May 20 and Nanaimo on May 21 with the Victoria Chamber Orchestra, led by maestro Yariv Aloni. The Nanaimo show is at 2:30 p.m. at the Port Theatre.

The highlight of the concert is a vocal performance of Purcell's famed opera, Dido and Aeneas.

Tickets are available at the Port Theatre box office. Call 745-8550.
