Fascinating Rhythm is holding its second free show of the summer, Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In May, The Ka-nives played at the record store in Nanaimo's downtown and this show is a fun, follow-up to that outing. nada and the Pivot are Vancouver-and-Victoria-based modern jazz provocateurs that travel roads blazed by the likes of Sun Ra, John Coltrane and Evan Parker. They cut the new edge with a blend of free form jazz, modern composition and a slight degree of madness.

What could complement this fluidity better than modern contemporary dance? Nothing, so bring on The Crimson Coast. Holly Bright, the principal mover behind Nanaimo's famed dance society is known for making dance both accessible and avant-garde. On this special night she will join nada and The Pivot. Who knows what will happen?

To kick off the event the Bash Brothers -- a local all-female two piece bass and drums affair -- are stepping in as a ringer. This duo drops between NoMeansNo, Deja Voodoo, Bruce Lee and every rock move you wished you could pull off.
