Oak Bay residents will likely get their first chance to examine proposals for Oak Bay Marina in early spring.

Staff will make a report report to council, said Lou Varela, the district’s chief administration officer.

Monday was the deadline to submit proposals to the municipality to take over a lease for land, buildings and water from 2023 to 2052 at 1327 Beach Dr.

The lease with the Oak Bay Marine Group runs out at the end of 2022.

Any new lease is subject to the province approving a 30-year lease for its associated water and foreshore areas.

Varela said the process is confidential and no information will be provided at this time on how many proposals have been submitted.

Proposals will be scored on a number of criteria. A minimum score of 70 per cent is required at each stage in order to move on to the next, she said.

Oak Bay has said that it wants to see innovative proposals, better use of its land, and a livelier site that will be a destination for visitors.

It also wants the project to be sustainable, environmentally responsible and respectful of First Nations culture, language and traditions.
