Police looking for man who grabbed women’s breasts in Saanich

Saanich police are looking for a man who grabbed a woman’s breasts from behind on a street in Gordon Head on Saturday night.

Saanich police are looking for a man who grabbed a woman’s breasts from behind on a street in Gordon Head on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old University of Victoria student was on a quiet side street near Shelbourne Street and Torquay Drive around 9 p.m. when a stranger approached her from behind, bear-hugged her and grabbed her breasts.

He held on for a few seconds before running away, said Saanich Police spokesman Sgt. Jereme Leslie.

The man was last seen running toward Shelbourne Street.

The woman was only able to catch a glimpse of the man, but described him as Asian, about five-foot-three-inches tall with dark hair with golden highlights. He was wearing a dark jacket and a black backpack.

Leslie said that although Saanich is one of the safest places in sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, according to the recently released Crime Severity Index, people should be aware of their surroundings, carry a cellphone and travel in well-lit areas when possible.

The woman was given access to victims’ services and a counsellor through the Saanich police department, Leslie said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4321 or report anonymously through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
