Police say driver who fled scene of fatal crash expected to turn himself in

Police say a man involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash on the Island Highway near Ladysmith Saturday morning is expected to turn himself in.

Police say a man involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash on the Island Highway near Ladysmith Saturday morning is expected to turn himself in.

鈥淚 can confirm that one of our officers has been in contact with the suspect driver and plans are underway for him to turn himself in,鈥 said RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov, media spokesman for sa国际传媒 Highway Patrol.

The sa国际传媒 RCMP said Sunday they had identified the suspect, and located the vehicle used to flee the scene of the crash.

RCMP have not released the man鈥檚 name.

The driver of the southbound F-150 truck was believed to have stolen another vehicle while fleeing the scene of the crash.

The pickup truck the suspect was driving crossed the centre median and collided with a northbound SUV on the Trans-sa国际传媒 Highway near Oyster-Stolo Road. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as a 35-year-old woman from Ladysmith. Police have not released her name.

The F-150 driver is believed to have been injured in the high-speed collision.

Cause of the collision is unknown.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call the South Island Traffic Services at 250-416-0352.
