RCMP arrest man after interrupting break-in at vehicle dealership

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP interrupted a break-in in progress at Island GM in Duncan, arresting a 37-year-old Parksville man. Police received a call about a suspected break-in underway at the dealership on the Island Highway about 9:20 p.m. Oct. 15.

Police received a call about a suspected break-in underway at the dealership on the Island Highway about 9:20 p.m. Oct. 15.

The Street Crimes Unit was already in the area on patrol and attended right away. Officers found a hole cut in a fence and located a man near a storage container inside the yard.

The man was allegedly removing items from the container and putting them into a vehicle nearby.

Police executed a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and found bolt cutters and other tools used for breaking-and-entering. Further evidence was found in surveillance footage.

RCMP said the man faces several charges, including break and enter and possession of break and enter tools. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15.
