PYEONGCHANG, Korea, Republic Of — What sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ Did on Saturday at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games:

ALPINE SKIING

Team event — Laurence St-Germain of Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., won her race in 21.39 seconds; Toronto’s Philip Brown did not complete the course; Erin Mielzynski, Guelph, Ont., won her pairing (21.10); and Trevor Philp, Calgary, lost (20.07), as sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ tied France, 2-2, in the round-of-16. They did not advance to the quarter-finals as the the tiebreaker was combined times — sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ was 0.04 seconds slower than the French.

BOBSLEIGH

Men’s fours — Justin Kripps (pilot), Summerland, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½; Alex Kopacz, London, Ont.; Jesse Lumsden, Burlington, Ont.; and Seyi Smith, Ottawa, finished in fifth with a combined time of 3:16.69, 0.84 seconds behind the German winners. Nick Poloniato (pilot), Hamilton; Ben Coakwell, Moose Jaw, Sask.; Josh Kirkpatrick, London, Ont.; and Cam Stones, Whitby, Ont., were 12th (3:17.81); and Chris Spring (pilot), Priddis, Alta.; Bryan Barnett, Edmonton; Lascelles Brown, Calgary; and Neville Wright, Edmonton, were 16th (3:17.96). 

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Men’s 50-kilometre mass start (classic style) — Alex Harvey, Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., placed fourth in a time of two hours, 10 minutes and 5.5 seconds — 6.1 seconds behind the bronze-medallist from the OAR and the best-ever finish by a Canadian in cross-country at the Olympics; Devon Kershaw, Sudbury, Ont. (2:17.49.4), and Graeme Killick, Fort McMurray, Alta., were 26th and 27th; Russell Kennedy, Canmore, Alta., 49th (2:25.16.6).

HOCKEY

Men — Chris Kelly, Toronto, and Andrew Ebbett of Vernon, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, each contributed a pair of goals as sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ won the bronze medal with 6-4 win over the Czech Republic. It marks the third-straight Winter Games that the men’s team has earned a spot on the podium, with the previous times being gold (2010, 2014).

SNOWBOARDING

Men’s Big Air — Sebastien Toutant of L’Assomption, Que., won the gold medal with a score of 174.25 in the final; Maxence Parrot, Bromont, Que., placed ninth (117.75); and Mark McMorris, Regina, was a spot behind in 10th (72.50).

Men’s parallel giant slalom — Jasey-Jay Anderson, Mont-Tremblant, Que., had a combined time of 1:26.76 (42.99, 43.77), and Darren Gardner, Burlington, Ont., posted 1:26.94 (43.97, 42.97) as they both failed to advance beyond the qualifying stage to rank 24th and 28th overall in the event.

SPEED SKATING

Long Track

Women’s mass start — Keri Morrison of Kamloops, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, accumulated 21 sprint points to advance from her semifinal and placed 12th in the final (8:41.38); Ivanie Blondin, Ottawa, was 10th in her semifinal with one point (8:53.92) — did not qualify for the medal race.

Men’s mass start — Olivier Jean, Lachenaie, Que., was seventh in his semifinal heat with eight points, and placed 14th in the final (7:49.30).
