ALPINE SKIING

Women’s Super G — Valerie Grenier, Mont-Tremblant, Que., finished 23rd in one minute, 22.77 seconds; Candace Crawford, Toronto, was 29th (1:23.69); and Roni Remme, Toronto, 37th (1:25.90).

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING

Women’s 4x5-kilometre relay — sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ (Dahria Beatty and Emily Nishikawa, both Whitehorse; Cendrine Browne, Saint-Jerome, Que.; and Anne-Marie Comeau, Saint-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que.) placed 13th overall in a time of 56 minutes, 14.6 seconds.

CURLING

Women — Rachel Homan, Ottawa, defeated the United States, 11-3 in seven ends, to improve to 1-3.

Men — Kevin Koe, Edmonton, lost 5-2 to Sweden in a showdown of first-place teams, and are 4-1 in the event.

FIGURE SKATING

Men — in the free skate with 173.42 points and finished ninth overall (263.43); Keegan Messing, Sherwood Park, Alta., placed 12th in the free (170.32), and 12th for the event (255.43). Former national champion Brian Orser, Toronto, coached both the gold-and-bronze medallists.

FREESTYLE SKIING

Women’s slopestyle — Yuki Tsubota of Whistler, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, with 78.20 points; Dara Howell, Huntsville, Ont. (32.00), and Kim Lamarre, Lac Beauport, Que. (23.60), were 21st and 22nd in qualifying — neither advanced to the medal round.

Men’s aerials — Olivier Rochon of Gatineau, Que., posted the sixth-best score in the opening round of qualifying with 124.34 points and will compete in the final; Lewis Irving, Quebec City, was 21st in the first round and 18th following the second qualification (78.73) to place 24th overall.

HOCKEY

Men — Mason Raymond of Cochrane, Alta., and Rene Borque, Lac La Biche, Alta., scored in regulation, but sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ (1-0-1-0) eventually in a shootout.

SKELETON

Women’s Individual — Elisabeth Vathje, Calgary, placed ninth overall with a combined time of 3:28.65 after four runs; Jane Channell, North Vancouver, sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½, was a spot behind in 10th (3:29.07); and Mirela Rahneva, Ottawa, 12th (3:29.52).

SKI JUMPING

Men’s Individual (large hill) — Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes, Calgary, finished 21st overall with a score of 235.30.

SPEED SKATING

Short Track

Men’s 1,000 — Samuel Girard of Ferland-et-Boilleau, Que., captured the gold medal in 1:24.650; Charles Hamelin, Sainte-Julie, Que., was penalized in his semifinal and did not advance.

Women’s 1,500 — Kim Boutin, Sherbrooke, Que., won her second bronze medal of the Games, placing third (2:25.834); Valerie Maltais of Saguenay, Que., and Marianne St-Gelais of Saint-Felicien, Que., each incurred a penalty in their respective semifinals — neither advanced.
