Pranksters, including one wearing a cow suit, who have been ringing doorbells in a Campbell River neighbourhood then running away are pushing the game too far, say the RCMP.
The practice known as “nicky nine doors” has been around for decades and many consider it a harmless prank, said Const. Maury Tyre.
“We are sure there are adults in the community who remember playing the game as a youth,” Tyre said. “Unfortunately in the Penfield area, what we have are some young people that have taken the game too far.”
Tyre said the pranksters have accidentally broken items in yards in their haste, and have rung doorbells as late as 3 a.m. “[It] has stretched beyond fun to disturbing many residents in the area.”
In a few instances, residents have been able to catch the culprits, police said.
