The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the controlled intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Inland Island Highway.

A 61-year-old Port Alberni woman died in a Saturday afternoon collision between a motorcycle and a car near the outskirts of Qualicum Beach.

The woman was a passenger on the motorcycle, which collided with the car about 4:45 p.m. at the controlled intersection of Memorial Avenue and the Inland Island Highway.

The drivers of the motorcycle and the car were treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

It appears the westbound car was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Memorial Avenue to the highway’s southbound onramp as the motorcycle was travelling east on Memorial, said Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Shane Worth.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor and the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash, he said.

Oceanside RCMP are investigating along with the RCMP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the sa国际传媒 Coroners Service.

The crash followed another fatal motor-vehicle incident in the area on Friday, when an SUV and a garbage truck collided head-on on the Alberni Highway at Dunbar Way.

The 69-year-old driver and lone occupant of the SUV died at the scene while the driver of the garbage truck wasn’t seriously hurt.

Initial indications were that the SUV veered into the path of the garbage truck.
