Victoria-based Accent Inns has rolled out a special rate for health-care workers and other essential-services workers who are isolating themselves from their families at home.
Trina Notman, spokeswoman for Accent Inns, said the general聽manager in Victoria received a call from a registered nurse working in a local hospital.
鈥淪he was desperate and was on the verge of tears on the phone,鈥� Notman said.
The caller said 鈥渟ome nurses were sleeping in their cars so that they don鈥檛 take the virus home to their elderly parents or children and many nurse are working long聽days with only a short time between their next shift.鈥�
鈥淭hey needed a safe place to get some real rest between shifts and keep their families safe.鈥�
The nurse had tried other hotels, but they were closing their doors, Notman said.
Accent Inns are designed with exterior corridors, allowing guests to go directly from their vehicles to their room, and there is no central air conditioning. They are urged to take the stairs and not ride in elevators.
Housekeeping staff are using hospital-grade sanitizers and a disinfecting schedule is in place for all areas often touched, such as doorknobs, room keys, back-of-house areas and more.
The Accent Inns are still taking non-isolating guests, but are housing them in separate wings of the hotels, Notman said.
All essential workers are welcome, including first responders and pharmacy workers, she said.
