Building permit values up in Victoria and Nanaimo

In the capital region, permit values for all types of construction were up by 21.5 per cent in November compared with the same month the previous year

Building-permit values in ­Greater Victoria and Nanaimo rose in November despite a national year-over-year decline.

In the capital region, permit values for all types of construction were up by 21.5 per cent in November compared with the same month the previous year, Statistics sa国际传媒 said in a ­Tuesday report. Nanaimo saw an 18.4 per cent increase in values for the same period.

Projects in Greater ­Victoria had a preliminary value of $147.3 million in November, while those in Nanaimo were at $61.4 million.

In sa国际传媒, the overall value of building permits dropped 16.1 per cent from November 2022 to November 2023.

Residential values slid by 27.2 per cent year-over-year, although non-residential building — which includes commercial, industrial and institutional construction — rose by 15.6 per cent.

Nationally, building-permit value decreased by 4.2 per cent from November 2022, when they were at $11.35 billion, to November 2023 at $10.87 billion, the federal agency said in its monthly report. — sa国际传媒
