Camosun College is offering new courses on blockchains, a topic expected to appeal to those in the high-tech sector and other businesses.
The college is starting with a free 1.5-hour virtual 颅颅information session that will address the technology鈥檚 popularity and use now and in the future, and describe the upcoming courses.
Blockchains are used when multiple parties, sometimes located around the world, want to securely share data and 颅transfer value 鈥� for 颅example, cryptocurrencies such as 颅Bitcoin. The digital database can make deals or transactions more transparent and secure without requiring an intermediary, such as a central clearing body.
Camosun is partnering on the venture with Blockchain Guru, a Canadian consulting company providing training.
鈥淲ith the direction that business around the world is going, in the very near future almost anybody in business or in a leadership role is going to need to have, at the very least, an understanding of the capabilities of blockchain technology,鈥� Geoff Wilmshurst, vice-president of partnerships at Camosun 颅College, said in a statement Monday.
Jon Trask, chief executive of Blockchain Guru, said the 颅company is excited to be partnering with Camosun College to deliver emerging-technology training in blockchains, along with artificial intelligence, machine learning (a type of data analysis), IoT (Internet of things 鈥� technology that allows physical objects to connect with each other and share data through the Internet), RPA (robotic 颅process automation), and digital transformation in shipping and logistics.
