The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has partnered with CHEK TV to broadcast its annual business awards.
The chamber鈥檚 annual awards gala is typically held in the spring, but was postponed due to the pandemic. The awards are now being announced over a one-hour CHEK broadcast on Sept. 19 starting at 6 p.m.
鈥淚鈥檓 excited by this opportunity for our community to come together with thousands of people across Vancouver Island to celebrate the hard work and determination of businesses across our region,鈥 chamber CEO Bruce Williams said in a statement.
鈥淭his has been a challenging year for everyone and 鈥 more than ever 鈥 it鈥檚 important we recognize the extraordinary work of organizations that are the foundation of our region鈥檚 economy. These awards reflect pre-COVID business and will be a baseline for defining our future economy.鈥
There are 14 categories, including business of the year, outstanding customer service, innovation and new business. Finalists were announced this spring, after being chosen by an independent panel of community leaders.
Rahim Khudabux, co-owner and general manager of Max Furniture, was named chamber member of the year. This award recognizes an individual who has served as a volunteer at the chamber, has taken an active role with the board or committees, fosters relationships with the community and advocates on behalf of business.
Bill McCreadie is this year鈥檚 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, which is chosen by the chamber鈥檚 board of governors. McCreadie is a former chair of the chamber鈥檚 board of directors and partner with the accounting firm McCreadie & Tait. The Lifetime Achievement Award honours an individual for his or her outstanding leadership and accomplishments over the decades.
