The Catalyst Paper mill in Crofton plans to bring back online its third machine and 58 workers early in January.

Owner Paper Excellence said the move is being made as a result of strong performances from the mill鈥檚 paper sales force and operations.

鈥淲e鈥檙e very excited to return to full production at Crofton,鈥 said Paper Excellence vice-president Patrick Corriveau. 鈥淲e鈥檙e one of only a few companies that鈥檚 actually resuming paper production, so it鈥檚 a testament to the hard work of our salespeople and the quality of our products and papermakers.鈥

The Crofton mill has been making inroads with new food packaging paper while maintaining its traditional printing and writing-grade products.

The mill鈥檚 third machine was curtailed in the spring due to the combined impact of an external malware attack, a fibre shortage, the COVID-19 pandemic and reduced global paper demand

With three machines running, the mill will employ about 560 people.
