Downtown Victoria Earls closed after ceiling collapsed when pipe burst

The ceiling of the restaurant collapsed on the evening of Dec. 30 after a pipe burst.

Victoria’s downtown Earls restaurant has been forced to close for the next few weeks after its ceiling collapsed on the evening of Dec. 30 when a pipe burst.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor of the The Bay Centre, has been closed since Dec. 31.

A statement issued by Earls Tuesday afternoon said no guests or employees were in the building when the ceiling in the dining room collapsed due to a pipe bursting from the extreme cold.

The restaurant chain said while indoor dining is off the menu at the moment, it intends to offer takeout service starting Jan. 11. It hopes to reopen the restaurant in a few weeks, it added.

Inquiries to landlord Cushman Wakefield about timelines for fixing the damage and who is responsible were referred to Earls.
