American business magazine Forbes has named Victoria one of the world’s best places to visit in 2023. Forbes called the city “green” and “charming” in its list of 23 Best Places To Travel Around The World In 2023, Chosen By The Experts.”

The only other Canadian city to make the list was Edmonton.

“One of the unexpected joys of living in the Pacific Northwest turned out to be frequent jaunts to charming Victoria,” said Corinne Whiting, a Seattle-based contributing writer for Forbes. “I love the ease of this compact, walkable city and each visit I seem to discover brand-new treasures.” Forbes said sustainability and respecting and acknowledging First Nations are at the forefront in Victoria.

“Learn about the Songhees Nation at the Songhees Wellness Centre — where people and traditions come to meet — then venture out in a cultural canoe or walking tour departing from the Inner Harbour.”

Forbes said Victoria takes “green” to another level as an international leader in environmental initiatives, including recently achieving Biosphere Certification by the Responsible Tourism Institute.

“Travellers to Victoria can see additional sustainable efforts in action, whether it’s booking a stay at a carbon neutral hotel like the Inn at Laurel Point or Parkside Hotel, dining at Big Wheel Burger (sa¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½’s first carbon-neutral fast-food restaurant) or seeing the iconic orca with a carbon neutral and ocean-friendly tour operator like Orca Spirit or Eagle Wing Tours.”

For Whiting, other Victoria highlights include First Nations-led tours and kayaking excursions, as well as biking adventures peppered with delicious snacks and pints along the way.
