Harbour Air will no longer be flying between Maple Bay and Vancouver as of Oct. 5. Anyone who has already booked the Maple Bay route for travel after Oct. 5 will be contacted and offered another option or a full refund. The company is also suspending its non-stop Vancouver-to-Sechelt route as of Oct. 8, with plans to restore it next summer. The changes are due to declining demand, the company said.
Harbour Air said it will continue to provide regular service to 12 destinations, including on Vancouver Island, the Lower Mainland, the Gulf Islands and Seattle.
Island hotels earn honours
Four Vancouver Island hotels have won bragging rights for winning a place in the Michelin Guide to hotels around the world.
Just two Canadian hotels made the three-“key” category, for “an extradinary stay.”
The Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, with 25 safari-style tents, located on 600 acres near Tofino, joined the Fogo Island Inn from Newfoundland in that top-ranked group.
The Wickaninnish Inn of Tofino was awarded two-key status, denoting “an exceptional stay.”
The Fairmont Empress Hotel and the Magnolia Hotel and Spa, both of Victoria, were listed in the one-key group, denoting “a very special stay.”
Island Trust on the move
Islands Trust will move to a new office on Salt Spring Island this winter after lining up a multi-year lease at 121 McPhillips Ave. in Ganges, adjacent to the Capital Regional District location.
In-person services will continue to be provided from Islands Trust’s existing office at #1 - 500 Lower Ganges Road until Oct. 18. After that, enquiries can be made by phone and email until the new office opens after renovations.
During the in-person office closure period, enquiries can be submitted by email at [email protected], or by calling 250-538-9144.
Along with Salt Spring, Islands Trust has offices in Victoria and on Gabriola Island, with some employees working from home, says its website.
“We are looking forward to a new office space for the public to engage with Islands Trust staff on Salt Spring Island,” said Peter Luckham, chair of Islands Trust Council, in a statement about the new space.
“A physical location for Islands Trust on Salt Spring Island is important to being part of the largest community in the Islands Trust Area and to providing the public with convenient access to in-person assistance.”

The sa国际传媒 Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association’s 2024-2025 board of directors includes Jacqueline Borosa of the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District, Renee Hislop of Sooke School District and Tina Pierik of Greater Victoria School District.
Campbell River Airport ideas wanted
Campbell River residents are invited to help plan the future of the Campbell River Airport as it looks at its draft 2024-2029 strategic plan.
The first public session is set for Sept. 23 between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the Campbell River terminal building at 1 - 2000 Jubilee Parkway. The next session is Oct. 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Campbell River Community Centre.
