Marine job fair in Nanaimo on Nov. 7
Anyone interested in a marine industry career can head to the Port of Nanaimo, 100 Port Dr., from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7 to meet with 18 employers.
鈥淲e want to link the marine industry employers and possible employees, as there are tremendous opportunities for jobs that pay well,鈥 said port chair Donna Hais.
The Port sa国际传媒 event follows a similar career fair in 2018. Students and people of all ages can find out about job opportunities with firms doing business on the waterfront.
Employers taking part include Seaspan, sa国际传媒 Ferries, DP World, Tetra Tech, WCMRC, Search & Rescue, Island Ferries, Herold Engineering, Helijet, Western Stevedoring, sa国际传媒 Vehicle Processing Centre, Canadian Coast Guard, Gowlland Towing, Western Marine Institute, Vancouver Pile Driving, Work sa国际传媒 and the Port of Nanaimo.
The Port of Nanaimo has partnered with Work sa国际传媒 employment services centre.
Helijet appoints fixed-wing chief
Garth Eichel, an aviation and flight management specialist, has been appointed chief pilot for Helijet鈥檚 fixed-wing division.
Eichel is responsible for the professional standards of Helijet鈥檚 fixed-wing flight crews and developing standard operating procedures, training, scheduling and supervision.
He started with the aviation industry in 1989 at 19 years old. Eichel earned a commercial pilot licence and a diploma in aviation-flight management at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, Ont.
Eichel has flown wheel, float and ski-equipped aircraft in northern Manitoba, Saskatchewan and in the Arctic, and worked for airlines, flying regionally and internationally. After earning his airline transport pilot licence in 1997, he has flown single-engine, multi-engine and turbojet aircraft. Before joining Helijet, Eichel served as a captain with Vancouver-based Pacific Coastal Airlines.
Non-alcoholic spirit coming this month

On the move
Karl Maier, who was with the office of sa国际传媒鈥檚 Public Guardian and Trustee, has joined Beacon Law Centre as an associate lawyer.
Maier, a University of Victoria graduate, will focus on estate planning, business, and real estate.
