On the Street: Nanaimo Port CEO leads Pacific group

Port of Nanaimo CEO Ian Marr has been elected president of the Association of Pacific Ports. Marr, who was named CEO of the Port of Nanaimo last fall, was selected to head the APP at its 106th Annual Conference this month in Portland, Oregon.

Port of Nanaimo CEO Ian Marr has been elected president of the Association of Pacific Ports. Marr, who was named CEO of the Port of Nanaimo last fall, was selected to head the APP at its 106th Annual Conference this month in Portland, Oregon. Nanaimo will host the event in 2020, from Aug. 9 to 12.

The Association of Pacific Ports is a trade and information association founded in 1913 to promote increased efficiency and effectiveness of the ports of the Pacific.聽There are 27 members and 47 associate members, from sa国际传媒, Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii as well as Tonga and Taiwan.

鈥淭his is a great honour, and I look forward to serving as president of this great association,鈥 said Marr. 鈥淲e鈥檙e very excited about hosting this event next year in Nanaimo, and we expect over 60 delegates from our membership from all over the Pacific region to join us here.鈥

There have been two other presidents of the APP from Nanaimo: Don Beaton in 1985-86, and Gino Sedola in 1995-96.

New president for Riable Controls

Tom Zaban has been named the new president of high-tech manufacturer Reliable Controls.

Zaban will succeed founder Roland Laird, who intends to retire at the end of this year.

Laird founded Reliable, which designs and manufactures products that regulate energy, heat, light and water use in commercial and institutional buildings, in 1986. Zaban joined the firm in 1996 to oversee sales and marketing, and has been instrumental in establishing Reliable鈥檚 brand, training systems, sales forecasts, and increasing the company鈥檚 global market share.

Polly Cordwell leads Sotheby鈥檚 Realty Victoria branch

Polly Cordwell has been appointed the managing broker for the Victoria branch of Sotheby鈥檚 International Realty sa国际传媒. Cordwell has 20 years of experience in the real estate sector and a background in project marketing in the Vancouver real estate market.

Ian Goard named executive chef at Hotel Grand Pacific

Ian Goard has been named the new executive chef of the Hotel Grand Pacific, taking over the position from Rick Choy, Goard鈥檚 long-time mentor. Choy has held the position since 2007.

Goard has responsibility for the menu at The Pacific Restaurant and Lounge, and the Courtyard Caf茅, as well as the hotel鈥檚 banquet and catering menus, and the property鈥檚 in-room dining.

New restoration franchise

Paul Davis Victoria has added a new franchise at 493 Burnside Rd. East. The company, which restores residential and commercial properties damaged by fire, water, mould, storms and disasters, now has two Island locations owned by David Porter. The other is in Port Alberni. Porter also has franchises in the Fraser Valley and Washington.
