The massive coal stacker-reclaimer built by United Engineering at Point Hope Shipyard was lifted onto a barge Monday in preparation for transport to North Vancouver.
The 231-tonne stacker-reclaimer, which will sling and stack coal, was built on the Island for EMS-Technology to be used at Neptune Terminals in North Vancouver.
Ralmax Group, parent company of United Engineering, estimates that over the life of the 18-month project, 72,000 direct labour hours were counted at United and work was offered to more than 50 local suppliers. The machine, which stands 30 metres tall, is expected to leave for Vancouver Aug. 15.
