Sooke campaign will highlight benefits of shopping locally

The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce is launching its Hidden Treasures campaign early in the new year, hoping locals will spend their money locally and support the more than 700 businesses in the region.

The January campaign will include ads, postcards sent to every home in the region and information rack cards on sa国际传媒 Ferries.

The campaign is supported by a $40,000 grant from the Shop Local sa国际传媒 program.

Hidden Treasures follows the chamber’s Shop Sooke contest this fall, where people had to visit a minimum of 15 businesses in Sooke and enter their contest cards for a draw.

Chamber president Karen Mason said the Hidden Treasures campaign will bring the many stores and services directly into the homes of residents and visitors.

“Instead of default-driving out to other communities to shop, this campaign will encourage Sooke residents to first consider shopping in Sooke,” she said.

Mason said shopping locally supports and grows the local economy while benefiting the environment.

“The more people shop in Sooke, the more Sooke can benefit from the creation of more jobs while reducing the number of cars on the road,” she said. “This includes looking online for local instead of default diving into Amazon. If Sooke residents wish to armchair shop at home, BetterBuySooke.ca is a great showcase of local businesses with an online presence.”

The Shop Local sa国际传媒 initiative is supported by the federal government’s Strategic Activities Program, administered by the province’s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Industry, and delivered through the sa国际传媒 Chamber of Commerce.
