Food trucks will soon be rolling into some of Sooke鈥檚 parks.

The district is giving the green light to the mobile kitchens on a trial basis.

The parks with available spots include Whiffin Spit, the Broomhill playground, Ed McGregor, John Phillips Memorial Park and the Sooke Potholes.

The district said vendors will be assigned a park by a lottery system, providing an equal opportunity to work in each location. Vendors can operate seven days a week and will be able to determine their own schedules as long as they comply with parks bylaws.

Food trucks owner should have a valid business licence, a Vancouver Island Health Authority permit and insurance of $2 million with indemnification for the District of Sooke.

A refundable damage deposit of $300 and a non-refundable administration fee of $50 is required at the time of application.

Operators are encouraged to utilize compostable food containers where possible. Plastic is strongly discouraged.

They must supply a trash can and remove its contents from park. The sale of liquor will not be permitted.
