People holding onto Mastermind gift cards have just a few more days to use them before they are rendered useless.

The beleaguered toy retailer, which has a store in Langford, says it will stop honouring gift cards after Christmas Eve. There is a sign at the front door of the Westshore Town Centre location alerting customers to the decision.

According to court filings in Ontario, the retailer said gift cards worth about $5.6 million remain outstanding and are in jeopardy of becoming worthless.

The Toronto-based company recently stopped selling and activating new cards.

The company filed for creditor protection last month, citing increasing competition and disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic that have become too significant to overcome.

It plans to close at least 18 of its 66 stores as part of the filing. The Langford location will remain open. The only store in sa国际传媒 that is slated close is in Prince George.

In early December, a trio of retailer names including Joe Mimran banded together to buy the bulk of the company’s assets. That deal is expected to close in January.
