After 13 years at the helm of Vancity, Tamara Vrooman is stepping down as the credit union’s president and CEO to take up the lead role at the Vancouver Airport Authority.
Vancity’s board of directors will name an interim president and CEO in the coming weeks.
Vrooman replaces Craig Richmond, who announced in November he would be retiring June 30 after seven years as president and CEO of the non-profit organization that operates YVR.
Vrooman joined Vancity as president and CEO in September 2007. Since that time, the credit union has grown substantially through a values-based banking model. During her tenure, the credit union doubled its total assets plus assets under administration to $28.2 billion and became the first Canadian financial institution to join the United Nations’ Collective Commitment to Climate Action.
Vancity is a financial co-operative serving more than 543,000 members, with offices and 60 branches in Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Victoria, Squamish and Alert Bay.
