We can’t let a little detail like the sa国际传媒 Post strike derail the sa国际传媒 Christmas Fund, not when there is such a need for help this year.
Fortunately, many donors have found other ways to get their money to us, using the sa国际传媒Helps website, phoning us, or asking Maximum Express to deliver a cheque.
The other day, a driver from Maximum dropped off a little bundle for us, helping to push the campaign total a little higher. Every donation helps.
We have raised $592,483.72 since Nov. 12, when we started our 2024 fundraising campaign. Our goal is to match the $1.12 million donated last year.
This year, so far, 1,838 individuals, families and businesses have come to the aid of others.
Money donated to our fund is distributed in grants to about 60 local organizations that were identified with the help of volunteers in the local chapter of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller. While we focus on raising money, they determine the best ways to put it to use.
The partnership is making a difference throughout Greater Victoria, as far up-Island as Campbell River, and on the Gulf Islands as well.
Family Services of Greater Victoria is just one of this year’s recipients.
Our $10,000 grant will enhance the organization’s ability to provide emotional support and financial relief to families in need during this holiday season.
“Since holidays present an especially difficult coping time for families in transition, your grant funds will give our staff the ability to lessen the burden on families by providing both emotional support and financial relief during the holiday period as it builds to the new year and beyond,” says Pam Rudy, the organization’s acting executive director.
“Without funding, we do not have resources to subsidize families in need.”
Family Services of Greater Victoria supports children and families navigating serious life changes such as divorce, family violence, historical trauma, or significant health challenges.
The holiday period is a particularly difficult time for families in transition without financial resources. The TC Christmas Fund grant will help reduce the burden by subsidizing essential counselling services, family support programs, and other resources for those who need it.
And it’s not just about surviving the holidays — it’s about building a foundation for a healthier, more hopeful future.
That is just one example. We have identified many more — and this year, the need is great.
Your donations through the sa国际传媒 Christmas Fund are sure to make a difference in many lives.
Thanks to everyone! You are making a difference.
