For naturalists, the mating call of a robin is a sure sign that spring has arrived. For classic-car lovers, it鈥檚 the smell and sight of new and old parts at the annual British Vehicle Restoration Fair and Swap Meet for English Vehicles, Sunday at Heritage Acres.

This is the 13th year of the event, hosted by the Old English Car Club, South Island Branch and the Saanich Historical Artifacts Society.

The event is an opportunity to rub shoulders with fellow lovers of old English cars, trucks and motorcycles. It is a chance to pick up rare parts, tools, literature and automotive collectibles.

Stuck on a project? The meet is an excellent place to get recommendations on body shops, mechanics or parts suppliers.

Had enough of a project? The meet is the place to sell your bucket of bolts by renting a table.

Just have a few spare items? If you display your English car on the show and shine display field, you can offer for sale a maximum of six items from your trunk 鈥 a real 鈥渂oot sale.鈥

If you have large parts (fenders, transmissions or bumpers, for example) or a British project car for sale you can leave the parts at home and simply post the details on the Large Parts and Projects bulletin board (letter-size notices only, please).

There will be a British Vehicles For Sale area with space for 20 vehicles. Sellers are advised to bring a chair and some snacks so you can always be close to your car to answer questions.

The miniature train on site will be in operation, with rides by donation. Food service will be on site.

Admission is $4 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The event runs 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Acres, 7321 Lochside Dr., Saanichton. The site is east of the Pat Bay Highway in Central Saanich, off Island View Road and down from Michell鈥檚 Farm Market.

Net proceeds will go to the ALS Society of British Columbia and Yukon. For more information, go to .
