If you are like many Greater Victorians, the books have been piling up for months, in an annual tradition. Tucked away in corners, boxes are set aside for those volumes that need new readers.
Whether it鈥檚 a spring-cleaning blitz or a year-long cull of reading material, the books stacked up in homes all over the city will soon be on the move, because it鈥檚 almost time for the sa国际传媒 book drive.
This weekend, cars will line up at the Victoria Curling Club at 1952 Quadra St., and teams of volunteers will unload those boxes and bags so the two-week job of sorting them for the sa国际传媒 Book Sale can begin.
If you haven鈥檛 already prepared to donate, there is still time to go through your book shelves. Hundreds of thousands of fiction and non-fiction books will be dropped off, and all the proceeds from the sale on May 11 and 12 will go to literacy programs on the Island.
The drive-through book drop-off will be Saturday, April聽27, and Sunday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., both days.
If you want to donate, please pack books in boxes or bags that you don鈥檛 want returned. No encyclopedias, textbooks, magazines, medical books, outdated reference works, Reader鈥檚 Digest condensed books or National Geographics, please.
After 22 years, the sa国际传媒 Book Sale is marked on calendars throughout Greater Victoria. If you have never sampled its joys, drop off some books this weekend and come back for the sale on Saturday and Sunday, May 11 and 12.
It could become a tradition for you, too.
