A timeline of recent British royal events

LONDON (AP) 鈥 , announced Monday that she has completed chemotherapy treatment for cancer and plans to return to some public duties.

It comes after a difficult few months for the royals in which both 42-year-old Kate and were treated for cancer. Charles, 75, has been easing back into public engagements since April following a three-month break to focus on his treatment and recuperation after he was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.

Kate has made only two public appearances since announcing her own diagnosis in March. She said 鈥渢he last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family," but that she had 鈥渁 renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.鈥

Here鈥檚 a timeline of recent events in the royal family:

鈥 Sept. 8, 2022: Charles becomes king upon the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

鈥 March 29, 2023: Charles makes first foreign visit .

鈥 May 6, 2023: The at Westminster Abbey.

鈥 Sept. 20, 2023: Charles , making a stop at the fire-damaged Notre Dame cathedral.

鈥 Oct. 31, 2023: expresses sorrow and regret for past violence committed against Kenyans as they sought independence.

鈥 Dec. 25, 2023: Charles attends a Christmas service at Sandringham, the royal estate in eastern England, alongside Prince William, Kate, their children and other members of the royal family. It will be Kate鈥檚 last public appearance for six months.

鈥 Jan. 16, 2024: Kate, 42, is admitted to the London Clinic and undergoes abdominal surgery. The news isn鈥檛 announced until the next day.

鈥 Jan. 17: Kensington Palace that Kate is recovering from a planned operation. Officials say her condition isn鈥檛 cancer-related but did not specify what surgery it was, only saying it was successful. They say she will remain in the private hospital for 10-14 days and be away from public view until after Easter. Buckingham Palace announces on the same day that King Charles will be treated for a benign enlarged prostate.

鈥 Jan. 21: Prince Andrew鈥檚 ex-wife,

鈥 Jan. 26: for a three-day stay for his prostate treatment.

鈥 Jan. 29: Kate and Charles are both discharged from the London Clinic. Charles is photographed leaving the hospital with Camilla and waving at well-wishers. Kate is not pictured leaving the hospital.

鈥 Feb. 5: Buckingham Palace announces that and will receive treatment. Officials do not say what form of cancer the king has.

鈥 Feb. 7: arrives in the U.K. from California to visit his father. He departs the next day.

鈥 Feb. 11: , his first public outing since his cancer diagnosis.

鈥 Feb. 27: William of a memorial service for his godfather, King Constantine of Greece, due to a 鈥減ersonal matter.鈥 His office declines to elaborate but says Kate continues to do well. Later the same day, Buckingham Palace says Thomas Kingston, the son-in-law of Prince Michael of Kent, has died at the age of 45.

鈥 March 1: An inquest hears that Thomas Kingston died from a 鈥渢raumatic head wound鈥 on Feb. 25. A gun was found near his body at his parents鈥 home.

鈥 March 10: Kensington Palace of Kate surrounded by her children to mark Mother鈥檚 Day in Britain. The photo, the first official one since she underwent surgery, was retracted hours later by The Associated Press and other news agencies over concerns it had been digitally manipulated.

鈥 March 11: Amid speculation about her health sparked by the edited family photo, on social media for the 鈥渃onfusion鈥 caused. She says she 鈥渙ccasionally experiments with editing鈥 like many amateur photographers.

鈥 March 16: The Sun newspaper reportedly showing a smiling and relaxed Kate shopping with William at a farm shop near their Windsor home.

鈥 March 20: The Information Commissioner鈥檚 Office says it is that at least one member of staff at the London Clinic tried to snoop on Kate鈥檚 medical records while she was a patient at the hospital.

鈥 March 22: In a video address, , including chemotherapy. She says she is getting stronger every day, but needs to focus on her recovery.

鈥 March 31: Charles attends Easter Service at St. George鈥檚 Chapel in Windsor, shaking hands and greeting well-wishers who waited in the cold outside the service.

鈥 April 26: Charles will return to public-facing duties.

鈥 June 6: Charles attends commemorations in Normandy marking the , the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France during World War II.

鈥 June 14: Kate issues an , saying she has 鈥済ood days and bad days鈥 and is 鈥渂lown away鈥 by the public鈥檚 support. She says she will attend ceremonies the next day to mark the monarch鈥檚 official birthday.

鈥 June 15: Kate , also known as Trooping the Color, along with William, their three children and other members of the royal family. Crowds cheer when the royals emerge onto a Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a military flypast at the end of the event.

鈥 July 14: Kate at the Wimbledon tennis championships in her second public appearance since announcing her diagnosis.

鈥 July 14: Buckingham Palace announces Charles and Queen Camilla will visit Australia and Samoa in the autumn.

鈥 Sept 9: Kate releases a video message saying and reflecting on her "complex, scary and unpredictable" cancer journey. She says she will undertake "a few more public engagements" in the coming months as she recovers.
