Wayne Johnston's memoir 'Jennie's Boy' wins Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour

Wayne Johnston is the winner of this year鈥檚 Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour.

The novelist鈥檚 memoir 鈥淛ennie鈥檚 Boy,鈥 published by Alfred A. Knopf sa国际传媒, took home the $25,000 prize.聽

鈥淛ennie鈥檚 Boy鈥 tells the story of Johnston鈥檚 Newfoundland childhood, his family and community.聽

Two runners-up, author and creative writing professor Susan Juby and the creator of CBC hit series "Little Mosque on the Prairie'' Zarqa Nawaz, each received a prize of $4,000.聽

Juby鈥檚 comedic murder mystery novel 鈥淢indful of Murder鈥 was published by HarperCollins, and Nawaz鈥檚 satirical novel 鈥淛ameela Green Ruins Everything" was published by Simon and Schuster sa国际传媒.聽

The winner and the two finalists were selected from 71 entries for meeting the judging criteria for humorous books that are written with style and depth.

The prize was handed out at a gala dinner on Saturday near Orillia, Ont.聽
