British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran broke the attendance record at sa国际传媒 Place on Saturday night.

According to Chris May, general manager of sa国际传媒 Place, Sheeran drew 65,061 fans to the Vancouver venue, surpassing the previous record of 63,803 set by U2 in 2009.

“The energy and excitement radiating from the crowd was nothing short of electric,” May said in a news release.

“It’s our mission at the stadium to bring people together for unforgettable moments, and on this particular occasion, over 65,000 individuals came together to etch their mark in sa国际传媒 Place history. To meet this milestone in sa国际传媒 Place’s 40th anniversary year is both humbling and inspiring.”

Saturday night’s concert was the second Canadian stop in Sheeran’s 2023 Mathematics Tour. He performed in Toronto on June 17 and 18. His next concert is Sept. 9 in Nevada.

Sheeran also played an intimate theatre style gig at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre last Friday night to rave reviews.

sa国际传媒 Minister of Tourism, Art, Culture and Sport Lana Popham joined the chorus, saying the concert showcased Vancouver’s “welcoming spirit.”

“We’re grateful for artists like Ed Sheeran who contribute to our city’s vibrant cultural landscape and create memorable experiences for both locals and visitors,” she said in a news release. “Congratulations to both Ed Sheeran and sa国际传媒 Place for an incredible achievement”.

The success at sa国际传媒 Place came a week after a technical problem at Rogers Arena forced the postponement of a Drake concert.

There are four more concerts scheduled at sa国际传媒 Place for 2023: Beyoncé on Sept. 11, Coldplay on Sept. 22 and 23, and Guns N’ Roses on Oct. 16.
