Why: You can expect all three in-person concerts by Vancouver singer-songwriter Daniel Wesley next week to sell out in advance, which speaks both to the enduring popularity of the Ooo Ohh hitmaker and Vancouver Island鈥檚 pent-up demand for live music. Duncan鈥檚 Red Arrow Brewing Company will host Wesley for a trio of performances on its outdoor sports court, and while each show is limited to 50 tickets, it might as well be 50,000: Fans will be losing their collective minds, one has to expect, after more than a year of concertgoing quarantine. If the weather co-operates, the official return of concerts in the Cowichan Valley should be a very special engagement.

What: Film Slam/The 48 Film Festival

Why: The 48 Film Festival, a sa国际传媒-wide filmmaking challenge which asks participants to write, shoot, direct, score, edit and produce a short film in 48 hours, will have its corresponding local entry this weekend. Filmmakers on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands who register will have their film screened locally on June 18, with a chance for two winning entries to be shown at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto next year as the ultimate prize (being paid a screening fee by CineVic, at this point in the pandemic, isn鈥檛 a terrible takeaway, either.) The finished product needs to be 4 minutes in length, but the fame and fortune which awaits could last a lifetime.

What: The Beautiful Maladies

Why: The chameleonic tendencies of Tom Waits are a blessing for the members of the Beautiful Maladies, as the musical tribute can jive and wail with songs from any point in his career. The curse is that fans won鈥檛 be seeing this in person Friday when the talented collection of multi-instrumentalists (Brooke Maxwell, Aaron Watson, Kelly Fawcett, Matthew Pease, and Peter Dowse) take the stage for a livestream at Hermann鈥檚 Jazz Club. Concerts will return soon, so why not celebrate from home with the melodious Maladies while you still can?
