Why: Billed as 鈥渁 cross between a cooking show, neurological experiment and dance,鈥� Making Pi(e) is designed to expand the definition of traditional live performance. A precursor to what is expected to be a fleshed-out Fringe Festival production this summer, the latest online production from Victoria鈥檚 Broken Rhythms dance company consists of just 10 movements 鈥� each signifying the numbers 0 through 9. The finished product is a sequenced order of the first 194 numbers of PI (蟺), wherein numerical digits are transformed into physical expressions. Heady stuff, indeed 鈥� but far more interesting than the majority of pandemic-friendly content. Added bonus: A cooking-show component that could only be pulled off online.

What: Gillian Redwood presents The Triumph of Light

Why: A new exhibit by Victoria artist Gillian Redwood chronicles the process by which her acrylic paintings come to life. In a unique move, The Triumph of Light will showcase 鈥� side by side 鈥� both the early chalk-pastel sketches and finished versions of her work, giving a portrait of the artist in reverse. For those who miss out on meeting Redwood, who was born in Wales and studied at the Cardiff College of Art, in person this weekend (she will be at the gallery Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), she will be giving an artist talk and tour of the exhibit April 10 at 3:30 p.m. through Zoom.

What: Jazz in Spring: Latin French Lovers Virtual Music Concert Series

Why: A jazz band led by Victoria saxophonist Noedy Hechavarria Duharte headlines this unique multi-media event, which is offering a creative way to hear French in conversation and through music. The fifth and final concert in the online series by the Saanich chapter of Canadian Parents for French, which began Feb. 14, will feature Cuban music and live onstage art. Duharte will be joined by bassist Phil Albert and drummer Damian Graham on Saturday for the series finale.
