Victoria favourite Monik Nordine is soon leaving the city for Stockholm, Sweden, where she will study composition with trumpet player Anne-Sofi Soderquist. There may be other opportunities to see the singer-saxophonist perform before she exits, but few will be better than her performance at Hermann’s Jazz Club on Saturday.

Nordine and her quartet — Miles Fuller (drums), Phil Albert (bass), and Rob Cheramy (guitar) — will be joined by guest saxophonist Rowan Farintosh, who is home after two years of school in Toronto for a night of music dubbed Stuck in Pandemic With You. Both in-person and online options are available.

The Cowichan Valley Arts Council Gallery is home through the end of the month to a juried exhibition with a forest focus. It’s a timely one, given the ongoing battles over old-growth forests near Fairy Creek on southwestern Vancouver Island.

Works from 27 working artists from across the province will celebrate the natural beauty and ecological benefits of forests, through a range of mediums. The gallery located in the Cowichan Community Centre is open weekly Monday to Friday (from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
