Why: Hermann鈥檚 Jazz Club has been putting local musicians on stage in a variety of capacities throughout the pandemic, and the View Street mainstay has been reaping the rewards of late. Its full calendar this month includes a busy week of activity that includes a Neil Young tribute (Ragged Glory) Thursday, two Afro-Cuban performances by Pablo Cardenas on Friday, and a Leonard Cohen tribute (Tower of Song) on Sunday. Holding down the Saturday slot is Nanaimo blues king David Gogo, who has new material at the ready. He鈥檒l be be joined for this fiery fretboard workout 鈥� which will also be livestreamed on the Hermann鈥檚 website 鈥� by Marisha Devoin on bass and Gordon Grant Baird on drums.
Bachman & Bachman

Father-and-son duo Randy and Tal Bachman return to Sidney for a pair of performances at the Mary Winspear Centre, the site of four buzzed-about shows by the duo in September. Performances at the Sidney theatre have a capacity of 50 people, in order to promote social-distancing and satisfy provincial health protocols, so fans will want to act immediately where tickets are concerned. Rarely does the senior Bachman (of Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive fame) play venues of this size; rarer still are his acoustic performances with Tal (whose No.1 hit from 1999, She鈥檚 So High, still gets radio spins) by his side. Highly recommended.
Vox Americana

Why: Multi-instrumentalist Oliver Swain starts his busy weekend (which includes a show at Hermann鈥檚 Jazz Club on Sunday) with his Vox Americana showcase at the Victoria Event Centre on Saturday. The celebration of Americana music, hosted by Swain on the third Saturday of every month, includes guest turns from former Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra fiddler Patrick McGonigle, Winnipeg banjoist Allison DeGroot, and Calgary singer-songwriter Bella White this week. Add the play-everything ability of Swain into the mix and you鈥檝e got a full roster of top-tier roots music.
