Critic's picks: The Paperboys; Snowed in Comedy Tour; Being Robert Schumann

Why: One of the most enduring bands in sa国际传媒 has come to make Victoria their unofficial second home over the years, with many top-tier performances in the market during their three decades together. The rootsy world music group, led by the husband-and-wife duo of Tom and Kalissa Landa, and featuring singer and multi-instrumentalist Geoffrey Kelly of Spirit of the West, returns to the dance-friendly Hermann’s Upstairs tomorrow for a guaranteed good time. The acclaimed Juno Award winners never disappoint.

SNOWED IN COMEDY TOUR

Why: It’s 15 years and counting for the Snowed In Comedy Tour, a Vancouver-based showcase that turns the spotlight on Canadian comics each winter. The core trio of Dan Quinn, Pete Zedlacher, and Paul Myrehaug will be joined Friday in Victoria by Surrey’s Erica Sigurdson, a relative newcomer to the tour despite being on a variety of dates with the crew since 2019. Fans have come to expect great things from founder Quinn and Co., so expect nothing less than a flurry of funny from these comics with several Just For Laughs appearances on their résumés.

BEING ROBERT SCHUMANN

Why: Halifax-based conductor Holly Mathieson leds the Victoria Symphony in a program fêting the work of German composer Robert Schumann, whose compositions are a staple of the Romantic era. The afternoon performance features everything from unfinished vignettes to established orchestral works, which will be rendered anew with help from mezzo-soprano Allyson McHardy and pianist Robert Holliston.
