CONCERT
What: Messiah Parts 2 & 3
Where:
When: Wednesday, March 31, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: Free (donations are accepted)
Why: Messiah Parts 2 & 3 — the Easter counterpoint to its Christmas relative — will be performed Wednesday by an all-star ensemble, which includes soloists Jennifer Turner (soprano), Deanna Sills (mezzo), Isaiah Bell (tenor), Nathan McDonald (bass), and Christi Meyers (violin). The livestream performance, co-presented by Victoria Baroque and the Cowichan Symphony Society, gathers segments of the oratorio most often associated with Christmas and intends to present it the way it would have been performed in the 18th Century — with period instruments to match. The performance will be streamed to audiences from the Church of St. John the Divine in Victoria, whose acoustics will add extra oomph.
CONCERT
What: Dylan Stone: Solo Acoustic
Where:
When: Saturday, March 27, 7 p.m.
Tickets: Free (donations are accepted)
Why: Victoria singer-songwriter Dylan Stone has been active in the community for a decade or more, in a variety of set-ups, from the Dylan Stone Band and the Unfaithful Servants to the Great Divide. You can expect to hear a bit of something from each of the aforementioned groups, along with some rootsy covers by the greats — Neil Young or The Band wouldn’t be out of the question — in the songwriting game. This performance will feature Stone on stage alone, with his acoustic guitar, an excellent environment in which to hear him play. Take advantage of the opportunity.
