Ross Bay Villa offers summertime guided tours

Take an escorted journey back in time as the Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum brings back its summertime guided tours, now until Aug. 18.

Discover local history at the museum, a volunteer-led heritage site and restoration project in Fairfield.

Visitors can walk down a path shaded with heritage apple trees and a period garden to step into one of the few 1860s houses still standing in Victoria.

Erected in 1865, the Gothic Revival-style house was built for Victoria businessman Francis Roscoe and his wife, Anna Letitia Roscoe. At that time, the property was located far away from the bustling streets of an upstart gold rush town.

From the bright and airy drawing room to the charming children’s bedroom, the house has been restored with care and attention to detail to appear as it did when the Roscoe family called it home.

Guided tours are $7.50 per person. Tours take place 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and must be booked ahead of time. Ross Bay Villa Historic House Museum is located at 1490 Fairfield Rd. Drop by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday for Gift Shop In the Garden, a unique vintage store with everything from clothing and books to fine china and unexpected treasures (this outdoor event is weather dependent).

Ticket sales support the Ross Bay Villa Society, which owns and operates Ross Bay Villa.
