An old-timey Christmas at Helmcken House

Helmcken House is one of the oldest houses in British Columbia, and perhaps the oldest one to remain in one place.

Built by Dr. John Sebastian Helmcken, a surgeon with the Hudson’s Bay Company, the shingle-clad, squared-log structure sits on land owned by the Royal sa国际传媒 Museum, whose operators have done a good job bringing Helmcken House into the modern era.

Case in point: Old-Fashioned Christmas. The free event, held Saturday from noon until 3 p.m., will give visitors to Helmcken House the opportunity to experience what Christmas was like in Victoria more than 100 years ago.
