Eat and be entertained at Oak Bay's Spring Nosh

Enjoy live music, food and family fun during the Oak Bay Village Spring Nosh along Oak Bay Avenue on Saturday, June 15.

Hosted by the the Oak Bay Business Improvement Association, the afternoon event celebrates local food, with attendees able to select from small bites and larger portions while enjoying live music, giant games and live-action ice sculpting.

The offerings from the seven participating businesses include pizza from the Oak Bay Beach Hotel’s mobile pizza oven, a barbecue with The Whole Beast, Kulapops ice cream from 49 Below Ice Cream, baked goods from Cobs Bread, tapas from Tapas on Oak and various bites from Chef on the Run.

Diners will be entertained by four Vancouver Island-based professional ice carvers who will create ice sculptures during the event. Music will be supplied by Los Gringos Locos.

Lazy Susan’s will be hosting a Vintage Fair, with more than a dozen guest vendors in attendance. The fair runs 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the store, 2039 Oak Bay Ave.

The Oak Bay Village Spring Nosh runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at various venues in the Oak Bay Village. For more information, go to and or .

Get hooked on fishing with Family Fishing Weekend

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of sa国际传媒 is hoping to hook families on the sport of fishing at Family Fishing Weekend events taking place across sa国际传媒, including seven communities on Vancouver Island on Saturday and Sunday, , June 15 and 16.

The events offer a place for families to receive free loaner rods, reels and tackle as well as optional hands-on instruction from other angling enthusiasts. Many events take place near urban centres, with wheelchair accessibility.

Licence requirements for both fresh and salt water fishing will be waived during the weekend.

Event activities include fishing clinics, fly-tying clinics and stream clean-up projects.

“For some it’s the beginning of a new tradition. For others it’s an opportunity to share a lifelong passion for angling with the next generation,” said Jenna Merth, outreach coordinator, Freshwater Fisheries Society of sa国际传媒 “Ultimately it’s a fun weekend that doesn’t have to be expensive.”

Summertime fun at Ship Point

Ship Point will transform into a recreational, arts and cultural community hub most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during Summer at Ship Point, now until Sept. 19.

Hosted by the City of Victoria, the summer-long initiative includes a line-up of free music performances, an array of local food truck cuisine and free programming, such as yoga, a full-body bootcamp, free dance lessons by the City’s Artist in Residence or a drag show.

The area now has an expanded green space, Adirondack seating, planters, shade umbrellas and overhead lighting. People can try their hand at outdoor games such as giant chess, hula hoops and giant Jenga.

The Victoria Beer Society’s beer garden will be open 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Live music performances will take place 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays.
