A pair of Victoria-born artist managers and one famous former Victoria resident have made it onto the nominations ballot of the 55th Annual Grammy Awards.
Mission native Carly Rae Jepsen, who attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, is competing for song of the year and best pop solo performance for her smash hit Call Me Maybe. Victoria natives Nick Blasko and Piers Henwood, who currently manage Calgary-bred act Tegan and Sara, drew a nod as producers in the best long-form music video category.
Henwood and Blasko (along with the Quin sisters and director Elinor Svoboda-Salazar) were feted for Get Along, the Tegan and Sara documentary and live concert.
Earlier this year, the collaborators were nominees at the Juno Awards in Ottawa, where Get Along was bested by Feist: Look at What the Light Did Now for music DVD of the year.
Drake, meanwhile, picked up a trio of nods for his moody sophomore hit Take Care. Already a nine-time nominee heading into the evening, the 26-year-old added new nominations for best rap performance (for HYFR), best rap song (The Motto) and best rap album.
Tamia, from Windsor, Ont., also reeled in a pair of nominations for best R&B song and best R&B album.
Other Canuck nominees have similarly been feted by Grammy before.
Toronto R&B singer Melanie Fiona, a double winner last year, is up for best traditional R&B performance for Wrong Side of a Love Song; three-time champ Michael Bubl脙漏 received a best traditional pop vocal album nomination for his yuletide smash Christmas; and Arcade Fire is up for best song written for visual media, for their Hunger Games contribution Abraham's Daughter.
The Grammy Awards will air Feb. 10 on CBS.
