Co-authors Jeremy Taggart and Jonathan Torrens have written a book about what they call the 鈥淭rue North Strong and Freezing,鈥 with enough rock 鈥榥鈥 roll thrown in to satisfy music fans who know Taggart from his days as the drummer for Our Lady Peace.
Canadianity brings together the two brains behind the podcast of the same name for a romp through the cities, bands and pop culture of sa国际传媒, complete with its own philosophy: Bahddism. Sound silly? It is, but that鈥檚 presumably the point.
Taggart and Torrens will be at Bolen Books (1644 Hillside Ave.) at 7 tonight to meet with fans and sign copies of Canadianity. The event is free. For more information, visit bolen.bc.ca.

Celso Aussie hip-hop act kicks off Canuck tour
听
Members of Australian rap trio Hilltop Hoods are heading to the Capital Ballroom on Friday night with the wind at their backs.
The celebrated trio from Adelaide 鈥 Australia鈥檚 biggest hip-hop act 鈥 is kicking off a six-date tour of sa国际传媒. The show is nearing sell-out status, which isn鈥檛 surprising given the group鈥檚 success in the market dating back to 2008.
The trio has earned three consecutive No. 1 albums in its native Australia, which will motivate Aussie transplants in the Victoria area 鈥 much as Canucks assembled for The Tragically Hip when the group played small rooms in the U.S. But the real engine driving sales of the show is the band鈥檚 2014 performance at Rifflandia, which has gone down as one of the most impressive sets in the festival鈥檚 10-year history.
Tickets for the Friday show at Capital Ballroom are $35 at Lyle鈥檚 Place and Ticketweb.ca.

Brazilian guitarist sells out Upstairs Lounge
听
The cozy Upstairs Lounge at the Oak Bay Recreation Centre (1975 Bee St.) is the perfect setting for a classy night of guitar mastery from Brazilian guitarist Celso Machado.
Machado has spent four decades honing his craft, the past several from his home base in Gibsons. His mixture of Brazilian and Spanish guitar technique remains something to behold.
The bad news? Tickets are pretty much impossible to come by, but there鈥檚 no shame in showing up on the off chance that new seats become available. It鈥檚 not often recommend that course of action, but Machado is worth the hustle.
Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
