Julia Jenkins of Nanaimo has been named a finalist for the 2020 CBC Short Story Prize, which carries a cash award of $6,000 for the winner.
She earned the nod for I Am Aani Littlecrab, a story about the Tlingit First Nation of Alaska that was adapted from a chapter in her forthcoming novel.
Jenkins鈥� story was selected by the jury from more than 2,400 English-language submissions. Her nomination comes with a $1,000 cash prize from the sa国际传媒 Council for the Arts, a prize partner with CBC Books and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
The University of Victoria grad and mother of three sons, with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, will also have her work published on the CBC Books website. The winner will be announced on April 22. The prize includes a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
