A dance duo from Vancouver Island has made it through to the next round of sa国际传媒’s Got Talent.

Nanaimo’s Funkanometry was one of 14 acts to survive cuts following the seventh episode of the series Tuesday, and will move forward in the contest. This year’s grand prize winner will receive $1 million, the largest cash prize in Canadian television history, according to Rogers-owned Citytv.

Funkanometry, the duo of Jacksun Fryer and Carlow Rush, were one of four Vancouver Island performers chosen to compete in the fourth season of the reality series, which premiered March 19. Operatic soprano Holly Melville (Victoria), comic actor Shawn O’Hara (Victoria), and comedian Maninder Waraich (Victoria) joined Funkanometry and more than 100 others from across sa国际传媒 at the outset of sa国际传媒’s Got Talent, but the trio of Victoria acts have since been eliminated.

Melville sang during Tuesday’s broadcast, but her rendition of Pie Jesu by Gabriel Urbain Fauré was not enough to see her advance, despite glowing praise from the judges. Funkanometry and Mission singer Eshan Sobti are the only performers from sa国际传媒 still competing in the contest.

Other contestants chosen to advance by judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Trish Stratus, Kardinal Offishall and host Lindsay Ell are Longueuil, Quebec singer Jade Mathieu, Edmonton comedian Sterling V. Scott, Toronto magician Mark Lewis, and Quebec City stunt duo Mat & Mym.

Funkanometry are scheduled to appear on the show during the Tuesday, May 7 broadcast at 8 p.m. on Citytv. sa国际传媒’s Got Talent concludes May 14 with a two-hour finale from Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ont.
